Fits 

Community Fits, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to positively impacting the lives of youth. We are committed to empowering youth through creative outlets, particularly in the realm of fashion and textile arts. By offering skill-building opportunities, our programs enable young individuals to explore their creativity, learn valuable fashion-related skills, and open doors to new opportunities. Additionally, we emphasize overall wellness and emotional intelligence, approaching programs from a trauma-informed lens. Our organization is rooted in evidence-based practices, leveraging research and best practices to inform our programs and interventions. We hope to invoke community healing and foster a supportive community for youth to thrive.

Turn old pants into something fresh! Learn how to deconstruct and rework them using sewing machines and upcycling techniques.

 

Sunday, July 13 | 4:00 PM 

Pull up & Patch Day!
Bring a jacket, jeans, or tote and learn how to patch, personalize, and repair with fabric and hand stitching. Materials provided or bring your own.

 

Monday, July 14 | 5:30 PM 

Stitch & Sip: Bandana Puffer Tote
Sew a quilted tote bag using bandana-print fabric. One drink included—BYOB welcome. All materials provided.

Friday, July 19 | 12:00 PM 

Sewing & Hand Embroidery: Apron Edition
Sew your own apron, then learn basic hand embroidery techniques to personalize it. Take home thread and a needle to keep stitching.

Sewing 101: Machine Basics
Perfect for beginners! Learn threading, winding a bobbin, basic stitches, and how to troubleshoot. Bring your machine if you have one.

Bonnet Workshop
Sew a satin bonnet or durag from scratch. Choose your fabric and learn simple construction techniques. Beginner-friendly.

 

Friday, July 25 | 6:00 PM

Sustainable Machine Quilting Basics
Learn the basics of sustainable quilting using a sewing machine in this beginner-friendly class. You'll create a 4-square quilted sample while learning how to layer fabric, piece it together, add bias tape edging, and stitch everything down using eco-conscious materials.

Soulful Stitches (Free Kids Workshop)
A creative sewing workshop just for youth! Build confidence and hands-on skills in a fun, supportive space. Location and sign-up info coming soon.

 

Saturday, July 26 | 6:00 PM 

Intro to Sustainable Hand Quilting Workshop
Learn the art of hand quilting and slow stitching. Leave with a finished or in-progress quilted square. No machine needed.
